Profile

Prof. Dr. Mohamed A. Awad is Associate Professor of Horticulture/Pomolgy at the Department of Arid Land Agriculture, Faculty of Meteorology and Environmental Sciences, King Abdul-Aziz University since October 2008. He graduated from the Plant Production Department, Faculty of Agriculture, Mansoura University in 1988 with total grade excellent with honor degree. He earned the MSc degree in 1994 from Mansoura University through a co-operational program with the Fruit Research Institute in The Netherlands and then a PhD in 2001 from Wagningen University, The Netherlands in the filed of fruit physiology and the effect of pre and post harvest factors on fruit quality and healthiness. He worked as a demonstrator, Lecturer, Assistant Professor and Associate Professor of Pomology at Mansoura University. He also worked as Assistant Professor at the United Arab Emirates University 2003-2007.

He got the Professor Albert-Foundation Award 2003 (Stichting Prof A. Soenen, 2003) Ghent University, Belgaum, for Outstanding Research on Fruit Production among the European Universities (Certificate of recognition with 2000 euro). He published 24 scientific papers in international referred Journals in the field of fruit physiology and environmental stress physiology in relation with date palm growth and productivity. He taught and developed several courses for graduate and undergraduate students by applying the active learning and problem based learning methodology.

Research Interests

The research interest of Prof. Dr. Mohamed Awad focusing on the effects of pre and post harvest factors on fruit physiology especially fruit quality and storability. Also the physiological effects of environmental stress factors e.g. salinity, heat and drought on growth and productivity of fruit trees as well as studying problems related to date palm production chain from field to fork.
